Our 2nd Race Meeting incorprating the GT140 10 Year Anniversery. 

On Saturday 22nd August, the CGGTC staged only their second meeting and over 80 riders across many classes thoroughly enjoyed a superb day’s racing.  The meeting was held in the picturesque village of Henley, mid Suffolk with a speedway sized track which held up brilliantly following a major heatwave.  The track looked looked great and running under Nora regulations, it was adorned with Nora flags, banners and the signature green mesh fence surrounding the track finished off the professional look.  The clubs track staff did an amazing job with plenty of water going down and some rain storms during the week ensured a great race circuit with little to no dust.  

The Main event was the 10 year anniversary of the GT140 class, originally founded by the Godfather of GT140, Mr Jed Rolph. A special re-enactment of that very first race in 2016 kicked the day off in style with Jed, Carl Hard, Phil Martin, Phil Evans, Derrick Hard and Chris Norris all taking to the track for this momentous occasion.  Jed was interviewed by club Chairman and announcer Nigel Burch in the centre green and told the story of how the class evolved from their moped racing to what is now arguably the largest class in grass track. In fact one of the original mopeds was on display at the very impressive Team OFTR stand which indecently had five GT140 riders working out of.  Some of the original riders 7 from 10 year ago also entered the GT140 stock class bumping the numbers up to 32 GT 140 riders across the two categories, GT140 Pro and GT140 stock.

If anyone was wondering of there is an appetite splitting the GT140 class into two categories, this was a fantastic advert for that with 22 riders in the stock class and 10 in the pro. 

In the GT140 Pro class it was once again Ian Clark who led the way, he was however pushed hard by Steve Newsham, Kevin Gwillam and Mark Scopes, Newsham finishing just off the podium due to a mechanical issue on the third lap of the final race.

The GT140 Stock category was one of the closest racing you can witness and it was so refreshing to see new race winners within the GT140 class. This is what the Stock category is all about, ensuring a much more level playing field with lots of new riders joining up. One of the stars of those heats was Charlotte Brooks, a Speedway rider from Cornwall who drove 8 hours to take a guest ride on an OFTR bike. She did not disappoint with steady thirds and a fourth in her heats ensuring an A final place. Race winners included, Alex Ketteringham, also taking a guest ride on an OFTR bike, Neil Cotton coming back to the sport following a long absence and Kevin Gwillam doubling up in Stock and Pro.  The A final was win by Kevin Gwillam with Alex Ketteringham second and another OFTR rider Tim Newbrook achieving his first podium.   

Many youth riders enjoyed the occasion with Roxy Green taking a win in the Revvi class, Oscar South in the E-Bikes, Alfie Shipp in Cadets, Albie South followed by Ragan Wooleg in the juniors and the impressive pair of Inters, Kane Newby and Finlay Theobold.  

The pre 75 250 class in East Anglia always enjoys a good entry with a mix of 2 and 4 stroke machines, it was local lad Daryl Keeble on his Greaves, followed by Duncan Burton on his CZ with Giles Dismore all the way from Isle of Wight riding his BSA.

The open class, Tim Curnock made the journey from the Midlands with the win followed by Scott Campos and Danil King, with Tim Mount, Kevin Beer and Nic Kennett in the uprights.

Support classes also included 12 Quads and an MX class.
